Why Wolves made $11 million in Wisconsin, USA?

Wolves walk mainly on roads – paths, roads, trails and asphalt roads. And where wolves go, ungulates are afraid to go there: deer, roe deer, etc. Scientists call such places a “landscape of fear.”

In such places, the ungulates are less frequent than in others, and when they are there, they stay there for a short time, are very attentive and have a higher level of stress due to the potential attack of wolves.

Due to the fact that wolves walk the roads, they are less often present on them, among others. deer, so the number of collisions between animals and cars is necessarily decreasing. Researchers at Middletown Wesleyan University calculated that there are 38 fewer such collisions a year. This equates to savings in repair costs, rescues, etc. of USD 11 million per year!

For comparison: over the past 35 years, the state of Wisconsin has paid farmers $3 million in compensation for losses caused by wolves.
