Why Do We Need Wolves?

Wolves — often feared and misunderstood — are naturally returning to European landscapes as wildlife populations recover. Their comeback is a sign not just of species protection, but of ecosystems regaining balance.

As apex predators, wolves play a vital ecological role: they help regulate deer and wild boar numbers and influence prey behavior in ways that benefit the whole environment, from vegetation to beavers, birds, and butterflies. Without predators like wolves, ecosystems become less balanced and less healthy — undermining clean air, fertile soil, and biodiversity that we all depend on.

Living with wolves may feel challenging, but coexistence offers a rare opportunity — to reconnect with nature’s complexity, resilience, and wonder.
