When I enter the Białowieża Forest, I feel like I’m looking into God’s garden. As if I was introduced to nature in its original version: wolves hunting hinds, lynxes lurking for deer or bison grazing in the meadows. Oaks remembering the hunting trips of King Władysław Jagiełło in 1409 and hornbeams with wood as hard as steel.
And although man was present in this paradise, he did not manage to critically change it for it to lose its natural character. Entering the Białowieża Forest, I enter the last primeval lowland forest in Europe. It is like entering the temple.
For many years I thought that the areas I saw throughout Europe – full of pine or oak trees arranged in rows – were woods. The Białowieża Forest can’t be compared with the other woods I saw in Europe.
It’s the most beautiful chaos in nature, you can experience. True wildness.
In the past, you could only enter the Białowieża Forest with the king’s permission. Today we are lucky to be able to see it all with our own eyes.

As an 11-year-old, he first learned about the existence of the Białowieża Forest from the WWF magazine. He dreamed then to come to Poland and see the Forest with his own eyes. The road was winding: first he became a paratrooper in the special forces of Portugal, then he worked in a rehabilitation center for wolves, went to a corporation in Poland, and finally dropped everything and moved to Białowieża. He married a Polish painter, Basia Bańka, with whom they live in Białowieża. Every morning he takes cold baths in Narewka and then goes to the Forest.
