A private, guided 6-day winter wildlife expedition through the raw beauty of the Borecka Forest — home to Europe’s last truly wild herds of bison, wolves and moose — with New Year’s Eve in a traditional smoke sauna on the lake.

Organised by Totem Expeditions, hosted at the restored 19th-century manor of Folwark Łękuk on the shore of a Masurian lake.
You spend your days on the trail: tracking bison at dawn, reading wolf sign in fresh snow, listening at dusk for a howl, walking moose terrain along frozen river valleys. In the evenings — crackling fire, farmhouse cuisine, sauna and jacuzzi, billiards and the quiet of the forest.
The experience
A private group (8–14 people) — the forest, the guides and the manor are yours alone.
9 field sessions and lectures led by professional naturalist guides: bison walks into the Borecka Forest, snow tracking of wolves, moose terrain, an evening lecture on wolves with trail — camera footage and track-reading — so you know what you are looking at by next morning.
Meet a traditional forest beekeeper (bartnik) on the historic bee-route and taste mead produced in the apiary.
New Year’s Eve in a sauna, called “banya” at the lakefront, with a full festive feast.
Manor comfort: spa, steam and dry saunas, outdoor jacuzzi, games room, 5 nights in 2 ppl rooms, hearty regional breakfasts and dinners plus field provisions.
