Poland is a country with an incredibly rich nature, which has preserved fragments of wild forests that are home to unique species of flora and fauna. In today’s post, I take you on a journey through the wildest corners of Poland’s primeval forests, where you can feel close to nature and discover its secrets.

Polish primeval forests

Bialowieza Forest - a relic of ancient times

Bialowieza Forest is a pearl of Polish nature and one of the last places in Europe where fragments of primeval forests have been preserved. It is also home to the majestic bison – the symbol of the area. Here you can stroll among centuries-old oaks and hornbeams, admire wildlife and listen to the sounds of nature. Particularly worth a visit is the Strict Reserve, where nature rules by its own rules.

Numerous hiking and biking trails are available for tourists, as well as observation towers from which one can observe the richness of the landscape.

Knyszynska Forest - an oasis of peace and diversity

Slightly less known, but equally charming, Knyszynska Pushcha is unique for its varied landscape, which ranges from pine forests to peat bogs or rivers meandering among the woods. It is an ideal place for lovers of wild birds – you can meet a white-tailed eagle, a lesser spotted eagle or a black stork here. When visiting the primeval forest, it is worth walking the Trail of Queen Bona, which leads through the most interesting corners of the area. The Knyszyn Primeval Forest also hides numerous shrines and places of worship, which add to its unique character.

Augustowska Forest - the green lungs of Podlasie

The Augustów Primeval Forest impresses with its wildness and abundance of lakes, including the famous Lake Wigry. It is a place worth visiting both in summer and winter. In summer it is ideal for canoeing on the Czarna Hancza River, while in winter you can try cross-country skiing on scenic trails among the forests.

One of the unique features of this wilderness are the forest cemeteries of the Old Believers, which allow you to immerse yourself in the history of the region. For seekers of tranquility, the Augustow Forest is a place where the silence of the forest soothes the soul.
